Academic rules for Bachelor of Commerce degree (Single mode) 3502

Content of Program

To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BCom must contain:

1. A minimum of 144 units of credit (UOC)
2. A minimum of 96 UOC of courses offered by the ASB.
3. 48UOC of Level 1 Core courses.
4. A minimum of one Major from within the ASB. (Refer to Table A)
5. 12 UOC of courses from outside the ASB to fulfil the University’s General Education requirement.
6. Maximum of 60 UOC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education requirement.

Majors and Minors

7. A Major is a sequence of 48 UOC courses in a single discipline or area of study.
8. 18 UOC of a Major must be at Level 3.
9. If a student chooses to complete a second major, and the Majors have courses in common, a student may be permitted to have up to 6 UOC counted towards each Major sequence.
10. If a student chooses to complete a minor, it will consist of 30 UOC, with a minimum of 18 UOC at Level 2 and Level 3.

Progression rules

11. A minimum of 24 UOC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 2 courses.
12. A minimum of 72 UOC of courses must be completed before enrolling in Level 3 courses.
13. Students must declare their major before commencing Year 2.

Honours

High achieving students may undertake honours in the area of their business major by enrolling in 4501 BCom(Hons) program.

If BCom completed as part of a concurrent degree, all the above rules apply EXCEPT 1 and 5.

Academic Rules for the Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Economics (BCom/BEc) 3521

Content of Program

To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BCom/BEc must contain:

1. A minimum of 192 units of credit (UOC)
2. A minimum of 84 UOC of Economics courses and a minimum of 96 UOC of ASB courses.
3. Economics courses includes specified non-Economics courses, eg ACCT1501 (part of Economics core), ACCT3563/ACCT3573 (Hons) and ACCT3583/ACCT3593 (Hons) and the School of Psychology in the Faculty of Science, specifically PSYC3001.

4.72 UOC of core courses (60 UOC of Level 1, and 12 UOC of Level 2) [see below]
5. At least one Major from within Economics (Table A) AND one Major within Commerce (Table B)

6. 12 UOC courses from outside the ASB to fulfil the University’s General Education requirement.
7. Maximum of 72 UOC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education Requirement.


Majors

8. An Economics Major is a sequence of 60 UOC courses in a single discipline or area of study. A Commerce Major is a sequence of 48 UOC courses in a single discipline or area of study.
9. 18 UOC of each Major must be at Level 3.
10. If a student chooses to complete a second Economics major, and the Majors have courses in common outside the core courses, the common courses can only be counted towards one major.

Other rules in the BCom and BEc will apply wherever relevant.

Academic Rules for Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) - other dual degrees

Content of Program

To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BCom componet of a dual degree must contain:

1. A minimum of 96 UOC of courses offered by the ASB.
2. 48 UOC of Level 1 Core courses.
3. A minimum of one Major from within the ASB (Refer to Table A)
4. Maximum of 60 UOC of Level 1 courses.

Majors and Minors

5. A Major is a sequence of 48 UOC courses in a single discipline or area of study.
6. 18 UOC of a Major must be at Level 3.
7. If a student chooses to complete a second major, and the Majors have courses in common, a student may be permitted to have up to 6 UOC counted towards each Major sequence.

Content of Program

To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BCom (Co-op)) degree must contain:

1. A minimum of 192 units of credit (UOC).
2. A minimum of 132 UOC of courses offered by the ASB.
3. 48 UOC of Level 1 Core courses.
4. A minimum of one Major from within the ASB. (Refer to Table A)
5. 12 UOC of courses from outside the ASB to fulfil the University’s General Education requirement.
6. Maximum of 60 UOC of Level 1 courses, excluding Level 1 courses completed as part of the General Education requirement.
7. 36 UOC of Industrial Training Experience courses.

Majors and Minors

8. A Major is normally a sequence of 48 UOC courses in a single discipline or area of study.
9. 18 UOC of a Major must be at Level 3.
10. If a student chooses to complete a second major, and the Majors have courses in common, a student may be permitted to have up to 6 UOC counted towards each Major stream.
11. If a student chooses to complete a minor, it will consist of 30 UOC with a minimum of 18 UOC at Level 2 or Level 3.

Academic Rules for the Bachelor of Commerce (International) 3558

Content of Program

To be awarded a degree at Pass level, the BCom (International) must contain:

1. A minimum of 192 units of credit (UOC).
2. A minimum of 108 UOC of courses offered by the ASB (96 UOC from Commerce depth plus 12 UOC from International depth).
3. 48 UOC of Level 1 Core courses.
4. A minimum of one Major from within the ASB (Refer to Table A) .
5. A minimum 24 UOC courses in International Studies (Refer to Table A).
6. 48 UOC in an Overseas Study Program (1 year exchange at an approved overseas University).
7. 12 UOC Studies of the Region courses (to be separate from the commerce major and International Studies courses).
8. A maximum of 84 UOC of level one courses.

General Rules Relating to Every Program

Awarding degree

• A Pass degree with Distinction may be awarded if a student achieves a minimum of 75 WAM across the program and completes a minimum of 72 UOC at UNSW.
Honours
• Additional year of 48 UOC in one approved disciplinary stream, after completion of the requirements for the pass degree.
• Comprises specified courses from the relevant disciplinary stream plus a thesis
• Must be completed in two semesters following completion of the pass degree component
• Eligibility:
- minimum WAM of 70 in the relevant disciplinary stream of the Pass degree component. However please consult the relevant School as some Schools require a higher academic performance;
- pass all courses in the Pass degree component at the first attempt.
• Application: expression of interest and written application submitted to the Head of School or Honours Coordinator in the relevant School.
• Award: Class I, Class II Division 1, Class II Division II, Class III; if requirements for these classes are not met, a Pass degree will be awarded.

Prerequisites

Except in exceptional circumstances, a candidate shall not enrol in any course without having satisfied the prescribed prerequisite requirements. Please refer to the relevant School for permission to enrol in courses without having met these requirements.

Transfer between degrees
A student may request a transfer between UNSW programs through myUNSW. Please refer to the Internal Program Transfer Overview for further details.

Credit for courses passed at another University

Subject to the University rules governing admission with advanced standing, courses passed at another university may be counted towards fulfilling the requirements of the degree. Not more than fifty percent of the ASB program requirements (either in single or dual mode) will be awarded as advanced standing. Advanced standing will not be granted for courses completed more than 7 years before the date of admission of the applicant, except with the approval of the Australian School of Business Student Centre.

ELISE (Enabling Library and Information Skills for Everyone)

All new students are required to complete and attain at least 80% in the ELISE online tutorial via the Library homepage.
