Description

This elective course will extend your skills in professional communication (reports, journal papers, grant and ethics committee applications, conference talks, letters and job applications) and in communication with the lay public (health promotion, media, advocacy, and material for patients and the general public). You will use your command of epidemiological and statistical concepts and learn how to translate them into terms that will be widely and correctly understood. Topics covered include grammar and clarity, readability, evidence and argument, tables and graphs, questionnaire and form design, dealing with journalists, and use of design and imagery.

Note that this is not a remedial English class. Students are expected to have already mastered spoken and written English to graduate level. An understanding of basic grammatical terms (noun, verb, adjective, clause etc.) is assumed.
