Description

This course will assist in laying a basic foundation of knowledge for using 'sustainable design' assessment tools and rating schemes to inform the building design process. By the end of the course the students will have an understanding of the regulatory framework and compliance reporting that apply to a number of areas of Australian building procurement, including residential and commercial construction.
Project work will focus on the energy efficient design of commercial buildings in Australia. Students will examine the energy provisions of the Building Code of Australia (Section J), Deemed to Satisfy (DTS) prescription, interpretations and applications, with an introduction to alternative solutions, verifications and modelling through selected approved energy modelling tools. Note that completion of this elective does not constitute a qualification for certification, documentation & sign off for BCA sect. J compliance.
