Description

Note: This course was previously offered as CHEM7300 but changed to IEST7300 effective semester 2 2011.

IEST7300 is an introduction to the physical science principles that underlie an understanding of the environment. It is for postgraduate students WHO HAVE NEVER STUDIED PHYSICAL SCIENCES BEFORE AT UNIVERSITY LEVEL. It addresses basic physics with an emphasis on measurement, energy and thermodynamics; ‘green’ chemistry; elementary algebra for the manipulation of simple mathematical formulas; elementary data analysis and statistics; and some physical geography. Environmental applications addressed in the course include energy efficiency and renewable energy; chemical processes that are safer for the environment and people than existing processes; water management; and coastal management. Excluded: CHEM7300.
