Description

This course focuses on contemporary textiles for interior spaces and installations within the built environment. Textiles are used to enhance interiors, define space, absorb sound, and create specific character and atmosphere. The course will challenge the nature of textiles, what interior and installation textiles can be, and how they relate to space and the built environment. With new technologies and the revitalisation of existing ways of creating, constructing and patterning, there are many possibilities for innovative textiles that change how space is experienced.

The course encourages the investigation of relationships between concept, materiality and process in designing, and presents an opportunity for students to explore contemporary textiles informed by digital and studio based processes. It develops the skill and knowledge of various processes used in designing and fabricating contemporary textiles for interiors, installation and the built environment.

To undertake this course students should have completed, or have one of the following:
48 UOC in Design related courses
SDES6760 Introduction to Contemporary Textiles
Knowledge and skills in textiles design and processes
Or equivalent
