Description

Within the context of integrated design, this subject deals with advanced structural theory - dealing with buildings as structural systems. The objectives of this subject are to enable students to use structural theory for conceptual design of complex building typologies and to achieve important performance characteristics such as dematerialisation, light-weight and efficiency, disassembly, deconstruction and systems construction. Structure as form and architectonics; history and theory of these ideas in architecture and contemporary practice will be explored through case-studies and design projects. The use of structural analysis software will be expected in the resolution and communication of architectural design.
