Description

This course will introduce students to current theoretical and practical concepts in teaching speaking, with some consideration of how speaking interacts with listening. Participants will be encouraged to undertake tasks and small-scale projects that they can apply to their own classrooms in order to put the key ideas from the course into practice. Topics include theoretical perspectives on the teaching of speaking and listening; learner factors in oral/aural language contexts; cognitive and metacognitive processes involved in speaking and listening; speech, discourse and pronunciation; genres of speaking and implications for listening; planning and developing programs; assessing speaking and listening.
