Description

Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) involves the study of the likelihood and severity of specific outcomes of a system or process. This course teaches the ‘triplet’ framework for PRA that includes identifying the sources of risk, making a probabilistic assessment of their occurrence and subsequent consequence analysis. The course will go through specific applications of PRA that include the study of nuclear power plants, healthcare and climactic events. Topics include risk acceptance (factors and psychometric) along with societal considerations such as the perception of risk. PRA has strong interdependencies with reliability engineering, which is a subset of the PRA discipline.
