Description

This course aims to provide an understanding of the processes, methods, and techniques used to manage software-intensive projects.

Although some generic project management concepts will be discussed, this course will focus on the application of those concepts to software-intensive projects. Topics include: software life cycle processes; software life cycle models; software estimation; software project planning; software risk management; software measurement; software requirements management; software test management; software configuration management; software reviews; software quality assurance; software process improvement.

Where appropriate, standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 12207, PSM, CMMI) relevant to these topics will be examined.
This course does not cover the methods, tools and techniques of the software development process in detail (e.g., OOAD, Programming, etc.).

The software development process is examined primarily from a project management’s perspective; e.g., requirements management, not requirements development; software test management, not software testing.
