Stream Outline

Managing people effectively is crucial for operational and strategic success in our fast-changing world. This Master of Commerce specialisation offers practical and theoretical grounding in the policies and processes associated with managing people in paid employment, whether in the private or public sector.

You will gain advanced and applied knowledge in a range of more specialised human resource areas, including staff planning, recruitment, selection and development, gender equity, employee motivation and performance management, remuneration management, superannuation, employment law, organisational change, workplace negotiation, international and cross-cultural human resource management, and occupational health and safety.

Stream Structure

Compulsory Core Course:

One Data Analysis Core course:
MCom Extension students: Please note that if Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics or Risk Management are chosen as a second specialisation, students should take COMM5005 Quant Methods for Business (6 UOC) as their Data Analysis core course.

One Compulsory Gateway Courses:
Two Gateway Elective courses from the following (for MCom Extension students choice may be determined by the second Specialisation chosen):

Three Required Specialisation courses:

Two Elective specialisation courses from the following :
One general elective (MCom only) - you may choose from the above elective specialisation list or broaden your learning by choosing another MCom course.

One Capstone Course:

Or
High performing students will have the opportunity to apply for participate in a MCom Practicum. This would replace the Capstone course. How to apply COMM5030.


Please Note: The following courses are required for Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) Professional Accreditation in Human Resource Management:
  • MGMT5906 Organisations and People in Context (6 UOC)
  • MGMT5907 Human Resource Management (6 UOC)
  • MGMT5908 Strategic HRM (6 UOC)
  • MGMT5701 Global Employment Relations (6 UOC)
CREDIT TRANSFERS (including the Data Analysis course) may be awarded for courses (maximum 24 UOC) based on your previous studies.

These credits will be assessed upon application and you will be notified (in the offer letter) of the credit/s awarded.
