Program Description

The Graduate Certificate in Art is suitable for graduates wishing to extend their professional qualifications with a short period of study and those wishing to broaden or change directions in their professional endeavours or who have been admitted under Qualifications Rule 2.2, which allows entry with professional qualifications.

Candidates must successfully complete four courses totalling 24 units of credit to graduate with the Graduate Certificate.

Candidates with a minimum of credit average may upgrade to the Graduate Diploma in Art, with full credit for courses completed.

The Graduate Certificate can be completed in one academic semester. The maximum period is two academic semesters. In special circumstances an extension may be granted.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

The program is designed for students who wish to further artistic interests under expert guidance. Students are encouraged to see their art in the context of contemporary developments. The program allows students to develop a professional approach to their own creative endeavours and aims to assist in the transition from student to practising artist in the community, or in the pursuit of further study at research level. Interdisciplinary practice is encouraged and excellence promoted.

Program Structure

Students must complete four courses over either one semester full-time or two semesters part-time study. These courses must include one prescribed core course, one studio course, one studio elective and one elective.
