Program Description
Program Summary
The Graduate Certificate is the first tier of two postgraduate programs in Construction Project Management. It is undertaken on a part-time basis over two semesters with students completing two courses in each semester. Students learn about project management principles and techniques needed to effectively manage large construction projects.
Please note that the Graduate Certificate is not available to International students as it can only be undertaken on a part-time basis.

Career Opportunities
The Graduate Certificate program is suited to practicing personnel in relevant fields including building, construction management, construction economics, civil engineering, mining engineering, project management, quantity surveying, real estate who wish to enhance their career opportunities. This program also provides an opportunity to those who have relevant professional experience but limited formal qualifications to study at the graduate level.
Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes
At the conclusion of this program, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the construction project management body of knowledge, including established theories and recent developments relevant to the discipline or professional field.
- Apply construction project management principles and practices to new or complex environments.
- Investigate, generate, synthesise and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract and/or applied level.
- Critically evaluate contemporary debates and literatures in construction project management.
- Analyse problems or issues, articulate appropriate solutions and justify propositions and/or professional decisions.
- Communicate complex ideas in a variety of formats to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy and accountability in the acquisition or application of knowledge or skills.
- Demonstrate and understanding of, and the ability to apply, the principles of teamwork and collaboration.
Program Structure
To qualify for the Graduate Certificate of Construction Project Management program students will be required to complete a program of study totaling 24 UoC. Students must complete 4 courses from the Core Courses.
Admisson Requirements
To qualify for entry to the Graduate Certificate in Construction Project Management, applicants needs to have one of the following:
A recognised Bachelors degree in construction industry related disciplines with grades of credit average or above plus at least 1 year of work experience in the construction industry at a management level OR
A recognised college or university diploma in the construction industry related disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the construction industry at a management level OR
A recognised and relevant professional qualification such as membership of AIB (Australian Institute of Building), RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) or Master Builders Association plus 5 years of work experience in the construction industry at a management level OR
A recognised Bachelors degree or college or university diploma not related to activities of the construction industry plus a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the construction industry at a management level.
A recognised Bachelors degree in construction industry related disciplines with grades of credit average or above plus at least 1 year of work experience in the construction industry at a management level OR
A recognised college or university diploma in the construction industry related disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the construction industry at a management level OR

Academic Rules
Advanced Standing
No advanced standing nor exemption will be given for the Graduate Certificate Program.
Articulation and Upgrading
On completion of the program, students with grades of credit average or above may apply to upgrade to the 72 UoC Master of Construction Project Management program (8121) with full credits for the completed courses. Upgrading with full credits is permitted only when the Graduate Certificate has been completed but not awarded.
