Program Description

The Graduate Certificate in Art provides a interdisciplinary postgraduate experience in contemporary Fine Arts practices for those who wish to extend their professional qualifications with a shorter period of study and those wishing to broaden or change directions in their art practice.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

The Graduate Certificate in Art provides for pathways for both those with backgrounds in art and those who wish to enter fine arts practice from other backgrounds. Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Art have enhanced skills and understanding and can either complete a Master of Art or work as fine arts professionals.

Students who are approved to enter the GradCertArt requiring the completion of 24 UOC over 0.5 year full time or 1 year part time, must complete:

Academic Rules

The Graduate Certificate in Art requires completion of 24 UOC (normally 0.5 year full-time or 1 year part-time) including:
  1. 18 UOC in Core courses
  2. 6 UOC in approved specialisation courses

Entry Requirements

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Art requires a Bachelors degree in any field.

Applicants who apply with a bachelors degree completed more than 10 years ago can be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Art where they have a history of visual arts practice since graduation.

Applicants without a Bachelors degree may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate on a case-by-case basis by the Program Director, on the basis of a Portfolio of work and professional experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Consideration of RPL, including industry experience, will only be relevant for:
  1. entry into the program without a Bachelors degree; and
  2. entry with a Bachelors degree awarded more than 10 years prior to proposed year of commencement.

Articulation

Students who have completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate with a credit average are eligible for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Art with full credit for courses already completed.
