Program Description

The handbook provides you with information on the degree structure you would need to follow for the year you commence your study.

The Graduate Certificate in Commerce is designed for professionals who do not have an undergraduate degree, offering an excellent pathway into the Master of Commerce. The program provides you with a fundamental grounding in business and commerce concepts.

Program Structure

The Graduate Certificate in Commerce consists of four courses (24 UOC)

Two compulsory core courses
and
one Data Analysis Course, depending on the specialisation you may wish to pursue:

Complete two gateway courses (12 UOC) from the following list.
(These courses will depend on the specialisation you are interested in studying in the Master of Commerce)

Academic Rules

  1. Enrol into the Graduate Certificate in Commerce and complete 24 UOC
  2. Complete two compulsory core courses (12 UOC)
  3. Complete two gateway courses (12 UOC)
Upon successful completion of the four courses in the Graduate Certificate in Commerce, (with a minimum achievement of 65 overall) you may articulate into the Master of Commerce or Master of Commerce (Extension).

To articulate into the Master of Commerce or Master of Commerce (Extension) you are required to complete an internal transfer request form to seek approval.

Entry requirements

Applicants who do not have a Bachelor degree require a minimum of 5 years full-time professional work experience. Entry is determined by UNSW Business School on review of the following documentation upon application:
  1. A detailed resume (outlining competencies, business acumen and achievements)
  2. A supporting statement responding to the following questions
- Why do you want to study at UNSW Business School (maximum 500 words)
- What are your most significant professional achievements and why do you view them as such?) (max 500 words).

Option for applicants with an undergraduate degree
The Graduate Certificate program offers the flexibility to choose courses from any of the Master of Commerce gateway courses, in addition to two core courses, which may lead to a specialisation in the Master of Commerce program.

Options for applicants without an undergraduate degree
Applicants without an undergraduate degree who wish to undertake postgraduate business study may also apply for the Graduate Certificate in Commerce. Entry into this program requires 7 years relevant work experience.

This program consists of two core courses and a choice of two from eight gateway specialisation courses from the Master of Commerce, which will provide the fundamental grounding in business and commerce concepts.

Students should always follow the program requirements according to the year they started their degree.
