Description

Nura Gili’s postgraduate programs in Indigenous Studies provide a wider and more in-depth focus on Indigenous peoples and cultures in Australia and internationally. They aim to promote intercultural understanding through an exploration of Indigenous societies, knowledge, cultures, histories and contemporary experience.

Our postgraduate programs situate Indigenous knowledge and research methodologies within and against other theoretical frameworks that study Indigenous societies, cultures, histories, heritage and practice in order to develop students’ capacity to understand and move beyond entrenched political and ideological debates in the field of Indigenous research.. From this perspective, students are encouraged to develop a critical awareness of the ways in which Indigenous histories, cultures and societies have been, and continue to be, conceptualised and constructed, and to formulate their own research projects, methodologies and critical positions.

By the end of the program students can expect to have developed substantial knowledge and analytic skill to navigate the often complex dilemmas that emerge where Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures, knowledge and/or authorities intersect.
