Description

This course is intended to give research students an opportunity to explore and develop their educational practice. The course draws upon their prior experience as teachers and learners. During the course, they are supported in working with fellow participants to develop the skills, qualities, and understandings associated with their role as an educator at UNSW and, if relevant, as an educator in professional and/or industrial settings. A further aim of the course is to support the development of a community of learners both among participants and within the Engineering Faculty.
At the end of this course students will be able to
o explain key themes in adult learning theory and approaches to student learning and their application to both university learning and teaching and industry education
o apply the principles of curriculum alignment to the course development, design, assessment, and evaluation
o integrate the development and assessment of appropriate graduate attributes into the curriculum
o apply the skills of reflection to develop your professional practice as engineering educators
o demonstrate skills in small-group and large-group facilitation within an engineering context
o respond to the learning and teaching implications of diversity in the student population
o identify the key roles of the academic and develop strategies for balancing these roles
o engage in a collaborative, collegial learning process
