Description

Begins with an introduction to Russian life through art, literature, film, history and politics. Considers what it was like to live in Russia in the past, using literature, memoirs and historical works. Attempts to understand what is happening today, examining politics, day-to-day life and culture.


Learning Outcomes

  • Gain an understanding of aspects of Russian civilization, in particular geography, history, politics and culture
  • Develop independent research, analytical and presentation skills in this field.

Assessment

  • Logbook - 20%
  • One tutorial paper: Class presentation 10%; Written submission (1000 words) - 20%; Essay (1500 words) - 40%
  • Participation - 10%
