Description

An introduction to the concepts and processes that relate to the use of computer-based information-rich 3D models of buildings to support design processes. Students are introduced to the techniques of BIM (Building Information Modelling) using standard industry software, as well as associated processes including: good model building practice; model auditing; model exchange technologies & interoperability; design analysis; and design presentation, both documentation and visualisation. A weekly lecture covers the theoretical material, supported by a 2-hour lab class where hands-on techniques are taught. Assessment is based on a building modelling exercise, with the production of a range of outputs from the model.
