Description

The Biocity Studio is a theoretical urban design and policy course that proposes cities be reconceptualised as biotopes supported by a myriad of diverse, fragile, natural and constructed ecosystems. These urban biotopes are in turn reliant on the ecological services of neighbouring or distant biotopes. The Biocity Studio defines the interconnected systems that determine the condition of the urban biotope; biodiversity, built form, culture/education, economy, emissions, energy, food, governance, human health, transport, waste and water. Students explore these systems and determine their influence on city health. The studio results in development of design outputs and policy instruments.
