Description

Within this course we will examine the theories and work of a selected number of Australian architects. Issues of importance to the study of these architects will also be examined. These issues include: nationalism and the way architects in Australia have responded to nationalistic ideas about culture and climate; the adoption of modernism and post-modernism; political and public conservatism and its influences on architectural progress; architectural criticism; mythologies of place; environmentally sustainable design, and the discourse of regionalism. Material is presented as lectures and seminars. The course also includes field trips to places in Sydney.
