Building Information Modelling for Design Practice - BENV6719 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description This course provides an in-depth exploration of the technology of building information modelling (BIM) and its application to design practice across the breadth of built environment disciplines. It is designed for coursework postgraduate and senior undergraduate students across all disciplines, including civil and mechanical engineering. The course does not provide basic instruction in the use of BIM. Rather, it is assumed that students come in to the course with that base knowledge in the context of their professional discipline, and proceeds to cover topics including good model-building practice, full lifecycle modelling, information exchange and collaboration, integrated practice, model view definitions and emerging directions in the adoption of BIM. Weekly lectures and tutorials are supported by hands-on modelling exercises. Assessment is project-based. The course makes extensive use of software applications, so students need to have access to a reliable computer of their own, else be prepared to make heavy use (often after-hours) of the on-campus computer laboratories.
