Description

Online Course

In 1821, Giovanni Belzoni reconstructed a full-scale Pharaoh's tomb in London and the world went crazy for Egyptian relics. Belzoni's initial career as a circus showman had taught him people would happily pay to see the past brought to life before their very eyes.

Archaeologists, heritage specialists and exhibition designers all use various methods to reconstruct ancient and not-so-ancient civilizations. These methods are examining 3D and time-based visual reconstructions of famous archaeological sites such as Pompeii and Angkor. The projects in this fully online course will ask you to visually reconstruct the history of your own environment, and explore the cultural, aesthetic, and political implications of your images with a diverse range of students in an online environment.

By joining this course, you will find out why it is important that the past is constantly reinterpreted, and how it is 'brought-to-life'. You can then learn to apply your own visual interpretation skills to an understanding of how the heritage of your own culture is visually represented, and how to apply these basic imaging techniques in your own area of study.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students will receive log in instructions via their UNSW email account prior to the commencement of the course. This course is conducted via the Omnium system (omnium.edu.au).
