Risk and Risk Management - GENS8100 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description Decisions which affect individuals, businesses and the community are often made with a very uncertain knowledge of the future. Historical information can support this decision making process only to a certain extent. However, decisions are made (or often not made) based on perceptions of risks which are affected by individuals experience and various other factors. This course looks at objective and subjective views of risk that are important to individuals, business, the environment, the community and the wider social context. Concepts such as risk, risk communication, risk perception, risk aversion or appetite, and assessment, including videos and case studies, and builds on students’ own experiences. It is anticipated that students will gain an appreciation of main concepts relating to risk and be able to apply the risk management approach to studying problems. These issues become increasingly important as the concept of risk and risk assessment and management become more integrated into the functioning of every organisation globally.
