Description

The ways in which work can affect people’s safety and well-being is an important consideration for all organisations. Similarly, the negative affects of industry on the environment need to be prevented and managed. An understanding of workplace safety and environmental issues is highly relevant for students intending to work in industries. This course explores the legal frameworks, current methodologies and issues of best practice in the prevention and management of workplace hazards and environmental risks. The course uses a variety of media in course material assessment, including websites, videos and case studies, and builds on students’ own workplace experiences. It is anticipated that students will gain an appreciation of current legislation and codes of practice, understand how workplace and environmental hazards can affect people and ecosystems; and be able to apply the risk management approach to workplace hazards. These skills are important in all kinds of employment.
