Description

This course commences with the emergence and development of Industrial Design, from the
industrial revolution through to the present day. It introduces design styles, movements, notable designers, industrialists and companies. It examines and critiques current Industrial Design practices within the context of technological, economic and social changes taking place in industry and society today. The course explores future scenarios and emerging roles and theory of design to address challenges such as consumption, globalisation and social inequality.
The course will be presented each week by UNSW Industrial Design staff and occasional specialist lecturers. You will be offered a range of viewpoints and narratives on Industrial Design. The program structure will be loosely chronological for the first several weeks, and then will take a closer look at specific topics within this rich, diverse field of study.
