Description

This course builds on the knowledge of plant communities introduced in LAND 2151 (Landscape Analysis) by focusing on the aesthetic, ecological, and cultural aspects of plants in a design context. Topics include basic botanical terminology, taxonomic classification, plant structure, form and function, and urban ecology as it relates to planting design. The principles of planting design and documentation are explored through the study of existing landscape architectural designs and the preparation of a planting plan. The course involves several excursions to local sites, and students are asked to contribute to the cost of these excursions.
