Description The history of landscape architecture and garden art in Australia since European settlement is reviewed. Students develop a knowledge of planting design traditions in Australia. The history of plant introductions is analysed and the design qualities of Australian plants as the fundamental elements of landscape architectural expression in Australia. The interrelationships between Australian landscape architecture, Australian architecture and the urban design of Australian cities are studied. Students are introduced to the theory and practice of heritage conservation for gardens, public parks and public spaces. Skills in historical, visual documentation, essay writing and report writing are extended.
