Art, Technology and New Media - SAHT2676 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description This course explores the ways in which artists have responded to developments in technology and new media. A range of practices are examined from digital media to holography to techno-performance. In addition to investigating the work of specific artists, the subject investigates the ways in which museums and galleries are responding to the demands of new media and developing new strategies of presentation. The course will also introduce a range of theoretical work on new media and on virtual reality. In particular it will debate the nature of virtual experience, examining the temporal and spatial implications of operating within a virtual environment. The course incorporates a certain amount of hands-on experience and also demonstrations of artist's work.
