Description

The course covers some of the major authors, works, movements and reading theories of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Students will be introduced to ideas and literary productions of this period, which includes the Enlightenment, Romanticism, the Victorians, and the early Aesthetics movement. A selection of key literary texts will be read within, and/or against, a number of social, artistic and political contexts. In any particular year, the course may concentrate on shorter periods or discrete movements rather than survey the whole period.
