Description

Discussions about politics often spark passionate heated debate. These feelings are sparked as issues challenge our most deeply held beliefs about human nature, how the world works, and what the good society is like. This course examines these principles, values and beliefs that are at the core of the enduring battles in Australian politics.

The course takes a historical approach to unpacking the hot button issues of today. It introduces the historical context in which these big debates first emerged in Australia and the practical realities that shaped the values frameworks that persist today.

The issues that will be explored include fee trade versus fair trade, the size of government, workchoices and unions, immigration and racism, feminism, the role of the church and morality in politics.
