The interdisciplinary study of Science and Religion has recently grown apace. Special institutes have been set up, journals published and many new books have appeared on the subject.

In the minds of many people there are basic conflicts between science and religion. The course will examine many of these and seek to resolve the conflicts. Topics to be examined include the origins of religions, how science is done, how ancient documents are evaluated, historical interactions between science and Christianity and other religions, creation, evolution, the environment, uncertainty, suffering, miracles, psychology and religion, mind, soul, spirit and consciousness, bioethical questions, death and eternity.

While the course is taught primarily from a Christian viewpoint, the attitudes of other religions, including those which come from Australian aboriginal cultures, will frequently be studied and contrasted.
