Description

Graduate recruitment is a competitive selection process. Recruiters are seeking graduates who do not necessarily have the highest grades. “A student who stands out from the rest of the applicants is usually a well rounded individual with a diverse range of experience and has demonstrated their ability to lead a group of individuals, deal with conflict effectively, and build collaborative relationships.” Sophie Brown, Recruitment Coordinator at Procter & Gamble.

This course, which follows Introduction to the Workplace, requires that students undertake a four week placement in a workplace. The placement may be full time or the part time equivalent and based in Australia or overseas. The workplace may be related to their discipline, a workplace chosen to develop targeted skills, or a not for profit organisation where they can gain relevant skills.

In addition to completing the professional tasks set by the workplace supervisor, students are to identify an employability skill or a graduate capability they would like to further develop. In consultation with the workplace supervisor, students will identify and participate in skill development activities both within and outside of the organisation.

Students will reflect on their experience and report on the outcome of their development at the conclusion of their placement.

Students can complete this course as part of the Diploma of Professional Practice (DPP) or as a General Education course. DPP students who have successfully completed this course are eligible to enrol in DIPP1311 Professional Practice 2.
