Description

The aim of this course is to reinforce and build on material from the previous surveying courses, GMAT1110, GMAT2120, GMAT2500 and GMAT2700, with a major project at nearby Queens Park. In order to carry out this task, some preparatory lectures covering trigonometric heighting, EDM height traversing and EDM calibration will be delivered, supported by three on-campus field exercises. A range of online services offered to surveyors in NSW and internationally will also be explored to aid the work during the major practical exercise. The Queens Park exercise will comprise three full field days and some computations will be conducted during subsequent tutorial exercises. The remaining weeks will be devoted to computations and presentation of this major assignment. At the conclusion of this course, students will have applied their collective knowledge of various surveying instruments and techniques to specific “real world problems”. This gives the student an opportunity to experience the field to finish of a survey task as well as self-assessment of the outcome in terms of quality and suitability.
