Description

Postulates of quantum mechanics, Photoelectric/Compton effects, eigenfunctions/operators, Schrodinger equation, potential wells, steps and barriers, tunnelling, the harmonic oscillator, the hydrogen atom, orbital and spin angular momentum, magnetic moments.

Experimental investigations in a range of areas: x-ray diffraction, work function, semiconductor bandgap, Hall effect, carrier lifetimes, nuclear magnetic resonance, magnetic properties.

Assumed Knowledge: First year physics and mathematics
