Description

Subject Area: Theatre and Performance Studies

An introduction to writing for a performance space, with special focus on the writer and her/his process. Using practical exercises, readings and discussion, the course engages with a range of strategies for approaching the live performance, develops some strategies for approaching writing for live performance and emphasises the developing aesthetic of the individual writer.

Classes focus on the body, space and time, with sessions examining the function of the word in performance, principles of structuring, the relation to the audience and the use of objects and architecture. The final classes focus on workshopping texts in groups, utilising languages and strategies developed during the course. Segments of texts will be read in class.
