'Staging Australia' offers a study of 20th century Australian theatre, with the focus on recent performance. It is based around issues of nationalism, post-nationalism and the theatrical and dramatic construction of staged ideas of ‘Australianness’. The emphasis is on broad theatrical movements, including the New Wave of the 1970s; alternative/community theatre; Aboriginal theatre; women’s and multicultural performance; and current trends in playwriting, theatrical practice and contemporary performance.
