Description

This course provides you with an overview of the major twentieth-century art movements in Latin America. Beginning with Mexican Muralism and ending with Latin American conceptualism, it also considers Madi art in Argentina, Neo-concretism and Tropicalia in Brazil, kinetic art in Venezuela and Argentina and the School of the South of Torres-Garcia in Uruguay. Issues that will be addressed include the legacy of constructivism, abstraction in Latin American art, politics and art, the search for national languages of art and the links with international modernism.
