Subject Area: Japanese Studies

This course aims to provide students an opportunity to explore Japanese communication styles through a variety of different approaches to discourse analysis at a basic level (i.e. no background knowledge of linguistics is necessary). Students record examples of their own discourse which is analysed by focusing on elements of communication styles in comparison with a native Japanese speaker cohort, and critical reflection of their own discourse styles. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to apply the knowledge and experiences gained form the course to improving their Japanese communication by enhancing their understanding and skills of Japanese communication further.
