Description

IDES3102 Design Studio 6: Sustainability focuses on the capacity of industrial design to address complex and pressing issues in the real world, and highlights the ecological and social possibilities for the industrial designer. The course emphasises sustainable systems thinking, lifecycle thinking and designing for behavioural change. It develops design competence beyond purely commercial objectives and expands students’ knowledge and empathy in designing for those who are typically underserved by the mainstream design profession. Each undertaking is expected to demonstrate a high level of technical resolution and documentation, and a rigorous engagement with the environmental and societal issues which are seen as opportunities for design intervention.
