Description

This course is an introduction to contemporary textiles practice. It introduces textile practice for art and design applications for students involved in creative textile work. The course illustrates the role textiles play in reflecting and documenting contemporary society; and the social, sustainable, re-use and environmental issues associated with textiles practice. A range of textile processes, techniques and materials are introduced in a series of practical workshops.

The techniques explored will be both two and three dimensional processes including experimental drawing and mark making, collaging with cloth through appliqué and reverse appliqué, felting and the surface design techniques of dyeing, resist techniques and printing. This is a studio-based course, where practical projects are informed by integrating research, concepts and studio experimentation.
