In this course, you will explore the relationship between justice, social life and everyday experience. What happens when justice fails? What is just? What are the social implications? Drawing on different legal, literary, media and visual examples you will explore how justice is portrayed and understood in different social relations and cultural contexts. Some themes to be considered in this course include (but are not limited to) forgiveness, compassion and care, crime and punishment, equality and discrimination, justice and mercy, power and knowledge, law and order, morality and value, and ethics and justice. By exploring different themes and cultural practices, you will focus on the social implications of justice in our everyday lives and experience.
