Description

GENY0003 runs in Summer Semester. The aim of this fun course is to help you to improve your academic skills. Primarily it will provide guidance on how to present clear, well-structured arguments, how to better engage with and reference the ideas of others, how to think critically, and how to express yourself in an appropriately formal manner. The course will also help you to improve your presentation skills. Extensive feedback will be provided on your written work.

The course will give you an opportunity to apply what you learn to a particular topic. For GENY0003 the topic is Alice in Wonderland. Throughout the semester you will be introduced to Lewis Carroll’s famous 19th children’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and a range of related topics, such as childhood, fantasy and the Japanese movie Spirited Away.

Weekly readings will be provided and you will also be expected to do your own outside reading. The course runs intensively, with around 5 hours of classes a day spread over 7 days. Each day will begin with a lecture on Alice followed by a skills focused tutorial.

GENY0003 is not a prerequisite for GENY0001 or GENY0002. All three courses use similar academic skills material but have different themes.
