Description

This course will focus on the terminology, principles and methods of CFD – Computational Fluid Dynamics.

CFD can be applied in many areas of engineering, including aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, air-conditioning and minerals processing. The aims of this course are:
  • Use of CFD in the context of a useful design tool for industry and a vital research tool for thermos-fluid research
  • Familiarise with the basic steps and terminology associated with CFD which includes developing understanding of the conservation laws applied to fluid motion and heat transfer and basic computational methods including explicit, implicit methods, discretization schemes and stability analysis
  • Develop practical expertise of solving CFD problems with commercial CFD codes
  • Develop an awareness of the power and limitations of CFD
