Description

This course, the only one of it’s kind in Australia, combines an introduction to etching (intaglio) processes with the opportunity to work with some of Australia’s most important artists. Students will be provided with an invaluable professional practice opportunity to support the activities of Cicada Press, a research group at COFA UNSW, through an engagement with a number of visiting artists in the operation of an editioning workshop. Two self-directed assessment tasks, offering themes to be interpreted, give students instruction on how to translate their ideas into printed art. This experience will be aligned using collaboration with invited artists who, with student assistance, will realise a body of prints from concept to final production. Previous printmaking skills are not essential to undertake this course.

Since 2004 Cicada Press has developed projects with 170 artists and facilitated exhibitions throughout the Asia-Pacific region. For further information on Cicada Press activities in the Custom Print course please see the Cicada press Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/CicadaPress
