The typical duration of this program is 4 years full-time. For admission to the program, students must satisfy the entry requirements to both the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Arts programs.

This degree program is administered by the Faculty of Science.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Please refer to the program objectives as listed for the Bachelor of Science program 3970 and the Bachelor of Arts program 3403.

Program Structure

Program Requirements
  • This program requires the successful completion of 192 units of credit (UoC) in an approved sequence of study.
  • Students are required to undertake courses totalling a minimum 84 UOC from each of the Science and the Arts components of this combined degree. The remaining 24 UoC may be from either area.
  • Included in this, students must complete an approved Major sequence in both Science and Arts. Students should enrol in at least 18 Level 1 UoC and no more than 36 Level I UoC in each of the Science and the Arts components of the program. No more than 12 UoC at Level I can be taken in any one sequence of study in the Arts component, and no more than 18 Level I UOC in any School for the Science component.
  • Only courses offered by Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (refer to Program 3403) can be counted towards the Arts component of the Program. Students should be aware that they cannot do an 'external' Arts Major in Program 3930.
  • Only courses offered by the Faculty of Science (defined as course codes in the Schools of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Bimolecular Sciences, Biological Earth and Environmental Sciences, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, Physics, Optometry, Risk and Safety Science, the Department of Aviation and course codes from Science Communication (SCOM), the Science Faculty (SCIF), Computer Science, Medical Science and Food Science) can be counted towards the Science component of the program. Students should be aware that if they elect to do the Science Majors ‘Environment and Society’, ‘History and Philosophy of Science’ or ‘Philosophy’ they still need to complete 84 UoC from the Science Schools.
Selecting Majors

For information on available Science Majors, please refer to Table A (Majors) in program Bachelor of Science 3970 or contact the Science Student Centre on campus.

For information on available Arts majors, please refer to program Bachelor of Arts 3403 or contact the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Office on campus.

Academic Rules

For program rules and requirements, please refer to the Program Structure section above.

Notes:
Given the requirement to complete a minimum of 84 units of credit in Science courses at Levels I-III, including a major as specified for program 3970, it may be difficult to undertake some Science majors as part of the combined degree structure due to timetable constraints.

Students may not enrol in the Honours Year until they have satisfied all requirements for both the Science and Arts components of the degree.
