The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) (Services Marketing – Tourism and Hospitality) prepares students for management positions in the rapidly growing tourism and hospitality industries.

Students receive rigorous grounding in business fundamentals, as well as major studies in Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality. These studies are combined with hands-on industry training and work experience.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the BCom (Services Marketing), students will have the ability to:
  • demonstrate and apply business, tourism and hospitality knowledge
  • demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills, particularly within the tourism and hospitality context
  • present complex issues in coherent written statements and oral presentations
  • demonstrate understanding of disciplinary issues in a global context
  • demonstrate understanding and apply the principles of working collaboratively in teams
  • understand the social and ethical dimensions in their chosen disciplinary areas

Studies leading to the award of the Bachelor of Commerce (Services Marketing – Tourism and Hospitality) degree normally consist of 192 UOC or 32 courses to be completed over 4 academic years. These UOC need to be made up of:

Compulsory core courses account for 24 UOC (4 courses)

  • ECON1101 Microeconomics 1
  • ECON1203 Business and Economic Statistics
  • SERV1100 Tourism & Hospitality Operational Studies
  • MGMT1001 Managing Organisations and People
  • MARK1012 Marketing Fundamentals (recommended flexible core course for Marketing major)
  • Either ECON1102 Macroeconomics 1 or another flexible core course*
  • SERV1001 Fundamentals of Tourism
*ECON1102 is required if ECON2117 is taken in Year 3

Year 2: Core Concepts and Principles

General Education Requirements

Students in this program must complete 12 UOC in General Education courses or their equivalent (unless otherwise entitled to exemption). For further information about General Education Requirements please refer to the UNSW Online Handbook.
