The combined Advanced Science/Social Science program enables students to complete a Study Plan in Advanced Science, in addition to a program of study in Social Science offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The duration of this combined degree program is normally five years full-time.

For admission to this program, students must satisfy the entry requirements to Advanced Science as well as to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

This degree is administered by the Faculty of Science.

On completion of this program, students will have attained a sound knowledge base in both their Advanced Science specialisation and Social Science.

The total units of credit (UOC) required for this program is 240.

Students are required to undertake 144 UOC for the Advanced Science component of this degree program, including an honours year, and 84 UOC for the Social Science component which includes the Social Science core program of 48 UOC. The remaining 12 units of credit may be taken from courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Science or the Faculty of Science.

Note: Students may complete a major (48 UOC) in a Social Science discipline from the Bachelor of Social Science 3420 by using the 12 units of credit Social Science or Science electives to complete the requirements for the Social Science major.

Students seeking to complete the Advanced Science component of this combined degree program would normally be expected to complete the full Stage 4 Honours sequence for the Study Plan in which they are enrolled. In practice, it may be difficult to undertake some Study Plans as part of combined degree structures and students may be restricted in the number of Advanced Science courses that they can undertake. Where these are insufficient to allow the student to complete the recommended Study Plan, students are advised to consult the relevant Head of School.
Students may not enrol in the Honours Year until they have satisfied all requirements for both the Science and Social Science components of the degree.
