Program Description

This program provides a flexible pathway for those who have a range of gaps in their assumed knowledge and thereby do not meet the standard entry requirements. It provides an opportunity for them to broaden their scientific skills base, to strengthen their academic literacy, and to develop their critical and analytical thinking. Students who are highly motivated to study engineering or science but come from a range of backgrounds will find this program attractive.

Each student's plan of study in this program will be individually decided in conjunction with an academic advisor.

Entry to UNSW Engineering and Science programs

Students intending to seek admission to the Bachelor of Engineering program must follow the Engineering Plan and those interested in the Bachelor of Science program follow the Science Plan.

On the successful completion of 24 or 48 Units of Credit, students who have a WAM exceeding 65% and have satisfied the appropriate assumed knowledge requirements will be permitted to transfer to either the Bachelor of Engineering or Science program. Otherwise, domestic students must apply for admission to UNSW through the UAC and International students must apply for admission directly through UNSW.

Advanced Standing

If accepted into a program at UNSW, students will be eligible for advanced standing (credit transfer) in successfully completed courses that form part of that program. It should be noted that 'enabling' courses completed in this Program do not qualify for Advanced Standing.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

This program has been designed to:
  1. Develop and sustain an interest in and knowledge of engineering or science.
  2. Develop a working knowledge of scientific methods of investigation or of the engineering profession.
  3. Encourage curiosity and creative imagination for the construction of hypotheses, the design of experiments and the solution of problems.
  4. Develop confidence and skill in aspects of engineering and science, including in enabling disciplines.
  5. Develop the ability and disposition to think logically, to communicate clearly by written and oral means, and to read critically and with understanding.
  6. Promote understanding of the significance of science, engineering, technology and social factors in modern society, and of the contributions they can make in improving material conditions.

Program Structure

Students in the Program follow either the Engineering Plan Eng Plan or the Science Plan Science Plan

Academic Rules

A student must complete a total of 48 units of credit to complete the Program in either the Engineering or Science Plans. Students who are operating at a sufficient level of achievement will be invited to apply for transfer into either the Bachelor of Engieering (Program 3705) or the Bachelor of Science (Program 3970) after 24 units of credit.

Progression in the Program is subject to Academic Performance. In particular, students must be on Good Academic Standing to remain in the Program. See AS Rules
