Program Description

The Diploma of Professional Practice (click here to visit the DPP website) aims to provide students with opportunities to further enhance their capabilities, skills and knowledge to pursue professional careers nationally and internationally.

Feedback from employers shows that while they value academic achievements, they also seek graduates who have the necessary skills to be effective in the workplace, are globally aware, and have the potential to be future leaders. Students will develop the employability skills sought by graduate employers through formal work placement opportunities and courses aimed at developing global citizenship and leadership.

During the placements students will reflect upon themselves as professional practitioners and develop their skills in global citizenship and effective leadership and teamwork. On completion of the Diploma students will have developed a deeper understanding of, and capability for, leadership, and professional practice in the workplace and the international community. They will have increased their competitiveness in the graduate recruitment process and their ongoing career management skills.

The Diploma of Professional Practice is equivalent to one year of fulltime study and consists of 48 units of credit. It is designed to be taken on a part-time basis and concurrently with an undergraduate program. To facilitate this concurrency the program is delivered in blended learning delivery mode.

Group B (12UOC) - Courses are electives, selected from a wide range of undergraduate courses and may be credited from the concurrent undergraduate program. The electives provide students with opportunities to either:
  • further prepare themselves for their work placement by undertaking courses that provide them with particular knowledge, skills and/or dispositions necessary to work effectively in their proposed Professional Practice (PP) settings (e.g., language/indigenous/legal/cultural studies); or
  • increase their effectiveness during the PP.
Group C (12UOC) - Courses provide students with opportunities to:
  • develop, negotiate and arrange a plan for their period of Professional Practice (PP);
  • prepare themselves for their period of PP;
  • complete their period of PP; and
  • critically reflect upon their performance in their chosen PP setting; or
  • reflect on the contribution of their community service activities to their development as leaders, professional practitioners, and global citizens.
Group D (6UOC) – The capstone course provides students with opportunities to demonstrate, via a portfolio, how they have developed their capabilities as professional practitioners, leaders and global citizens through completion of the Diploma.
