Program Description

This program is for new 2017 commencing students. If you are a continuing student please refer to the Online Handbook in the year you started your Dual Law degree or contact the Faculty of Law for advice.

This program combines the professional LLB program with Bachelor of Arts and Business. The Bachelor of Arts and Business (BA&Bus) is designed to provide students with all the benefits of an education in the Humanities, Social Sciences and the Creative and Performing Arts PLUS study in Business. The program provides students with not only the depth (Major and Minor streams) of the Bachelor of Arts but a specially-designed Business Studies component that will introduce you to key concepts and approaches in Business and Management.

Major Sequence
(i) Students may select any major from those offered in the Bachelor of Arts and Business 3444.
(ii) Students may select any minor from those offered in the Bachelor of Arts and Business 3444.

Duration/Award
The program is a six year full-time combined program leading to the award of the two degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Business and Bachelor of Laws (BA&Bus LLB).

Bachelor of Arts and Business/Bachelor of Laws
The degree of Bachelor of Arts and Business/Bachelor of Laws is not awarded until the completion of the full six year program, but students unable to complete the full program may apply to transfer to the three year Bachelor of Arts and Business program with advanced standing where appropriate.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

At the completion of this program, students will have obtained a sound knowledge base in the disciplines of both Arts and Business and Law with general business background.

    Award with Distinction in NonLLB degree
    You are eligible for the award of your Pass Degree "with Distinction" if you achieve a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 75 in all courses and complete at least 50% of the requirements of your award at UNSW.

    General Education Requirements

    Students enrolled in combined law degrees are not required to complete general education courses.

    Honours

    Honours in Law

    High achieving students may be eligible to graduate with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours).
    Please visit the Honours in law website for further information about the current Honours policy (applicable to students who commenced the LLB in 2014 or earlier) and the the new policy (applicable to students who commenced the LLB from 2015 onwards).

    Honours in the Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences
    Once you have completed your Bachelor of Arts and Business in Dual mode and 144 UOC overall you can apply for admission to do an Honours year in the Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Honours) program 4504. Entry to Honours requires a WAM of 70 or higher in the major stream in which you want to study at Honours level.

    Academic Rules

    Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts and Business in dual mode
    1. complete 144 UOC in the Bachelor of Arts and Business
    2. complete the requirements for one 60 UOC home major stream
    3. complete the requirements for one 24 UOC minor stream
    4. complete a 12 UOC of UNSW Arts and Social Sciences Prescribed Electives
    5. complete the requirements for the Business Studies component
    6. enrol in 24 UOC of Business Studies component core courses in your first 48 UOC of study
    7. complete at least 30 UOC of Level 1 courses before enrolling in Level 2 courses
    8. specify your major and minor combination at the time of enrolment in Level 2 courses
    9. complete at least 48 UOC, including 6 UOC at Level 1 and 6 UOC at Level 2 in your major/minor, before enrolling in Level 3 courses.
    Note: When students take this program in combination with a Bachelor of Laws they are unable to take any courses from the Business Law stream as advertised for program 3444 Arts and Business, that is, students cannot complete any TABLxxxx courses.

    For Academic Rules relating to the Bachelor of Laws component of this combined degree program, please refer to program 4701. Although 4701 program is no longer on offer, all combined law students enrolled in the LLB will need to comply with the rules stated here.
